On Saturday, the 21st of September, 2019, Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the Nairobi East and West Stakes participated in World Cleanup Day by cleaning Uhuru Park. They responded to Presidents George K. Munene and Jadmire Ndivo by turning up on time and in large numbers ready to work.
At 9 AM a small team from the Church, which included Mable Muruli Mark of public affairs, Bishop Bernard Oliech of Upper Hill Ward and President George K. Munene, went to Ruai Market where the opening ceremony was to take place. They were met there by an environment officer of Ruai Market, Nairobi County Council officials, County council staff, children from various schools and the Ruai community at large.

After President Munene offered an opening prayer, instructions were given and photos taken before the team headed back to Uhuru Park where the cleaning process had begun under the direction of President Darius Mobe, second counselor in the West Stake. Members had been divided into groups and assigned specific areas to clean. Victor Koroso of Githurai Ward distributed vests, cleaning materials, tools and water. Members worked all morning removing rubbish from the dais, the parking lot, the hill adjacent and the recreation area around the lake. Upon observing the fine work they had done, Mr. Edward Nyerere, the Park official expressed his gratitude to President Munene: "I've never met people like you, there are many ways we can partner on projects in the future."
The activity was concluded at 1 PM as President Munene and President Mobe expressed appreciation for the saints' valiant effort. Thanks is also due to the Honorable Govenor Mike Mbuvi Sonko who granted permission for the community service to done.
