Institute Graduates Celebrate Completion of Studies

"The purpose of an Institute class is to understand and apply gospel principles" President Prince Henry Omondi, Institute Director

Happy graduates of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Institute and Pathways Programs gathered on December 15th and 21st at Upper Hill and Buru Buru chapels, respectively, to receive Certificates of Completion. Young adults enrolled from January through December of 2019 studied the Doctrine and Covenants as course material.

Nairobi West Stake hosted 15 graduates and President Omondi, Institute Director and counselor in the West Stake, led a group discussion centered on the impact the Savior had on the people of his day. He referred to John chapter 4, where the woman at the well gradually realizes the Lord’s true identity through His influence on her. President Omondi then asked the attendees if they had had an experience with the Savior and followed with the question, “If so, what are you doing with it? “

A multi-group activity ensued wherein members were asked to discuss, answer and report their responses to the following: 1) What can we as leaders do to impact your lives? 2) What can you do to impact your own lives?

After certificates were awarded President Omondi offered the following closing remarks. “Information leads to revelation. Use the WhatsApp chat group to uplift and encourage others. God loves us, don’t ever feel that you are alone. He wants us to go on missions and be married in the temple.”

On December 21st, President Jadmire Ndivo welcomed attendees to the East Stake ceremonies where he presented certificates to 59 recipients. He encouraged attendees to make Institute a priority for learning and understanding the scriptures and reminded everyone that it is a requirement for going on a mission. Although many graduates had gone upcountry for the holidays, this event was a joyful celebration of diligence and dedication. The students are looking forward to next year's "Come Follow Me" course of study.
